This trip started off as an After Hours Scramble (AHS) of Bandera Mtn. I've been near Bandera on the way to other peaks in this area, but never actually done it. As the day approached, it was apparent that conditions would be difficult. Rain down low and a snow level of 4000'. Conditions were bad enough that the avalanche center (NWAC), decided to issue a special warning for high avy conditions today through the weekend. Bandera scramble route involves traversing a long open slope and under these conditions it was not feasible.
The alternative was a hike up to Twin Falls along the state park trail of the same name. The trail follows the river and if I understood correctly connects I-90's exit 34 and exit 38. We only went far enough to see the falls (about 2 miles each way). Turned out to be a very nice walk up to the viewing platforms at each of the two falls. Lot's of water pouring through the canyon. Under the conditions I only got a few pictures. |
