Season: winter
This trip started out as a scramble of Surprise Mtn. and due to the effect unseasonably warm weather has on snow, ended up as a snowshoe outing to Surprise and Glacier Lakes.  Lots of snow was on the ground giving us some really beautiful landscapes along the creek to enjoy, but as the day warmed, the snow became heavier and stickier making this easy trip into a real workout.  We saw some evidence of avalanche activity above the creek as we hiked in and that made it an easy choice not to go above Glacier Lake where we would need to traverse on and below some steep open slopes to Surprise Mtn.
