An Everett Mountaineers trip to this close neighbor of Mt. Index.  As seen from Hwy 2, Persis has a rounded summit and precipitous north face.  This short, steep and rough scramble starts off tunneling through dense brush and ascends the west ridge through a tortured forest before gaining the basin below the summit.  Here I'm told that there are ponds in the more benign summer months.  Camps are often made here when the plan is to do the Persis- Index traverse.  Fine views, particularly of Index from the summit.  Expect a knee bruising descent.

Route Map

Directions:
Drive US Hwy 2 east toward Stevens Pass.  After passing through Gold Bar take Forest Road 6200 on the right and follow bearing left at two junctions (?).  Find the unmarked trailhead short of the end of the road near the top of a small rise.  It's nothing more than a break in the dense brush, so you'll have to look carefully.
Winter:
Directions as above and drive as far as you can toward the trailhead. Blown down trees across the road are not unusual and will often force an alternative destination.
