I think of Mt. Si as the "always open" mountain. It really doesn't matter what the conditions are elsewhere in the Cascades, it seems like you can almost always drive to the large parking area at the trailhead and with little more than determination and maybe some YakTrax get in good conditioning hike. The trail is probably one of the most heavily used and best maintained around. Beware the Gray Jays at the benches though; they work in packs. One lands nearby to distract you while his compadres swoop in to grab your sandwich. |

Directions:
Drive I-90 to the town of North Bend and take exit 31 into town. Continue east on the main drag, North Bend Way. Just east of town turn north on Mount Si Road (432nd SE). Turn right at the next intersection and drive 2.5 miles more to the huge parking lot. The lot is designed to hold 175 cars and includes a state-of-the-art outhouse and a picnic area. |
