An interesting snow scramble to this Snoqualmie Pass area peak with the Seattle Mountaineers. Hemlock Peak sits between The Tooth and Bryant Peak just north of the Alpental Ski Area and Denny Mtn. We hiked the snow covered Melakwa Lake trail to Hemlock Pass, went NE (right) uphill (steeply at times) to the saddle between Hemlock and Bryant and follwed the NE ridge to the summit. We originally tried to hit the ridge south of the saddle, but steep rock at the ridge top kept us from making the short cut. We back-tracked to the saddle, gained the ridge and went from there. A longish narrow summit ridge with a few too many trees, but really very nice views anyway. Low clouds filled the Denny Creek valley as we walked out in the late afternoon of what was otherwise a perfect early winter day. |
