Johnson Mtn. - 5220'
Miles RT: Elevation Gain: Route/Trail:
8.5 2400' trail
Map: GT - #207 Snoqualmie Pass
USGS - Davis Peak
Season: winter
This trip's destination was originally Skookum Peak (Pt. 6394), but it didn't look like we would be able to drive to the trail head near the end of Rd 9737.  Poor visibility had the camera staying in the pack for most of the trip, so not many pictures were taken.
We hiked across the bridge and started up Trail #1383.  At the first junction, we went left to Trail #1383.1 and followed it as it switchbacks to a saddle NE of Johnson Mtn.  Here we caught Trail #1235 and crossed below the north face of the mountain.  At a saddle and junction on the west end of the summit ridge, we went left (east) and climbed the ridge to the top.  At least we figured it to be the top... there didn't seem to be anything higher nearby, but our field of view was pretty small.  Can't remember now if we found a summit register.  Some discussion was given to making the loop over to Malcolm Mtn. and then back on Trail #1383, but it was wet and cold and the views didn't justify the likely hood that we'd walk for a while in the dark to do it.  So back we went on the ascent route and an early day.

Directions:
Drive I-90 to Cle Elum, exit to Hwy 970 east (or go through town, stopping at the bakery and then on to Hwy 970).  Follow to Teanaway River Road and go left (north).  Becomes North Fork Teanaway River Road.  Follow to 29 Pines Camp and then to FR 9737.   Just past the Beverly Campground find the 3100' Johnson Creek trailhead on the left.
Winter:
Same as above only drive as far as passable.  The road is plowed only as far as 29 Pines and after the first few good accumulations, a berm grows blocking access so that only snowmobiles use it.
