We were able to drive the road to a wide turnout in sight of the railroad tressle.  We hiked (snowshoed) to the second spur road on the left and followed that to the NW ridge.  There is some flagging on the uphill side of the road as you round the shoulder of the ridge, but it may be hard to spot.  The route stays on this ridge the whole way.  The flagging is sporatic but continues up through the dense trees.  Look for lopped lower branches and sawn limbs otherwise.  Somewhere around 4000' the forest begins to thin and eventally enters old growth where the going eases.  The last 100' or so to the summit may involve a short but steep snow climb.  The summit has been known to develope a cornice and at least one report that I read mentioned it collapsing underfoot.  Descent was the reverse of the ascent.
Directions:
Drive I-90, to exit 47.  Go south and at the "T" go right drive as far as passable.  This scramble usually begins on the road somewhere around the railroad bridge.
